Hand and Lock Competition

The project this term was to do a competition . The competition I decided to do was Hand & Locks Past is Present Competition. This competition was about combining different themes from different ereas. I decided to mix 1970's Glam rock with 18th century fashion.

Strictly Ballroom

Two weeks ago, keturah and I went to London, to the Victoria and Albert Museum, where we went to see the Ballroom exhibiton. I really liked the exhibiton. I really liked the exhibiton and not just because my favourite designer Alexander McQueen had two dresses in there; but also because of the different variety of ballroom dresses they had, as well as normal dresses in there. There were countless variety of dresses from different decades such as the 20's from classy dresses to deputant dresses. To the 40's post and after war the rashion on material. The classic 50, swinging 60's 70's, 80's 90's and present each and every dress unique. Along with the ballroom dresses came classic designers, from Norman Hartnell, Victor Stiebel and Zandra Rhodes to Alexander McQueen, Giles Deacon, Erdem and Jenny Packham.

Badge Making

Over the last three wednesdays, we have been making badges for the exhibiton. We used images of our work that we liked and printed them out and turned them in to badges. I decided to print out drawings i had done of castles, roses covered in blood and my paper cut out castles. I thought they all looked really nice and really nicely presented in little bags and a nice cover to go ontop. When we had the private view Thursday I noticed a couple of people take a few of the badges I had made this made me feel really happy as I felt my work and myself were appricated.

My Final Project

For the exhibitoon i came up with a few ideas such as making a quilt or a wall hanging. After working with Stacie Cullen in paper making I realised that i wanted to do somethink relating to that.
The story I chose to do in the brothers Grimm project, was Little Breir Rose, (Sleeping Beauty). I tried to create work with the main icons in the story such as the spinning wheel, Little Brier Rose, the castle covered in thorns, the 12 good faries and the 13th bad fairy. I knew that I wanted to combine paper cutting and textiles together. So i created a number of paper cut outs of castles which didnt work out well and threw them in the bin. I then decide to do a paper cut of castles covered in thorns this took some time because they were very delicate and ripped after about my 1000 attempts i put the cut outs on to silk screens and created a series of prints on a variety of materials that i had chosen my self different colours different textures that i thought would worked well with the story. I also chose a variety of different inks. I then started to sew into them and stich into most of them and riped into them too.
Once I had done that I thought it would be a good idea to add faries into the design, which i thought would work well because of the story. So I collect most of the fairy images i had collected and got a black marker pen and coverd the image in ink. I then cut out the images and glued them onto A3 paper i then photocopied the images and then oiled them up and  put them onto a silk screen. I decided to use calaco material for the prints and also used a pale pink and lime green coloured inks for the faries.
After I had done that I then put the material into embroidery hoops and began to sew into the faries wings. When i had finished all of my work I then tacked the castle images onto the wall that I was using for the exhibiton and I then hung the embroidry hoops with the fairy wings from the ceiling using fishing wire. I thought this idea worked really well and it also looked nice at the end. I got a load of nice compliments from the public about my work.

Exhibition

Yesterday was the exhibiton for my course called 'work in process' we held the private view yesterday which was a sucess :D. Everyone helped each other to make the exhibiton a sucess. I really liked everyones work i liked how different each of the pieces were and how beautifully presented they were. I really liked Isla's shoes I loved how beautifully painful they look and how well presented they were. I think the exhibition was the perfect end to the first year of the new course :D

Only Make Believe

ive been trying very hard to make sure that i blog but i keep forgetting too :/
i feel that with this project i have done a lot more work and i feel quite proud of it :D
the only think i am quite concerned about is the work that is going to be put in the exhabition we only have three weeks left and i still dont have a idea or design that i want to go in the exibition. i have done work sure as paper cutouts of castles and thorns but i dont feel they are right to go in to the exhibiton and i have also pronted them onto material and that still doesnt feel quite right for me either.
i really like paper cutting and i like printing i have experemented by using the two together and i like how they work but i just feel like my designs are not good enough yet to go into the exhibation.
i dont want to go for the usual things i make such as a skirt or a printed canvas i just DON'T KNOW!!!!!!!!!!

Indigo Dying

Today I went to an indigo dying workshop, that francis becon was demonstrating.I was really surprised at how the process works and how bad it smelt too :D I used bits of old materials, And dyed them in the dye. I also found out that the longer you leave it in the dye the more indigo it goes I really liked this process and would like to do it again.

Paper Cutting

Two weeks ago we had a tutorial on paper cutting from the artist speaker Stacey. She taught us different ways on how to cut he paper as well as on different materials. She really inspired me and I liked her work one of my favourite pieces of hers wax the paper cutting she made on trees. So I decided to make a paper cutting on the brothers grimm fairy tale brier rose I designed the castle covered in thorns I also layered it by make one cutting ontop of each other it looked really nice but it got ruins :( so today I remade it and it looks better than before.

Fairies And Little Brier Rose

The story I have decided to do is little brier rose from the brothers Grimm stories, so I have decided to focus on the 12 fairies the bad fairy and the castle covered in thorns today I decided to make moc ups of siloettes of fairys be use I thought that would be a good start on the designing point of view

The Brothers Grimm DvD

Ok Ok I think I am showing my addiction to the Grimm brothers here. But here is an imae of the film I have. And the best part about this is my faourite actor of all time Heath Ledger was it in :D He played Jacob Grimm. The plot of the film is basically about the brothers travelling all over Germany, first they travel to a village to get rid of a witch but it turns out that they facked the witch just to get money from the people. but it turns out that a general knows about there crimes and are after them. but when they go to a town to create a setup for money it turns out that the stroy is actually real people go missing and turn up dead and they end up in trouble. Its a good film :D

The reason I love Fairy Tales The Brothers Grimm Jacob and Wilhelm

Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm, were born in Hanau, Germany. They both worked together writing folklure storys that they have heard. In 1812 they published there first book of fairytales. Aparently they went all over Germany and listened to stories by people from middle class and high class people.

New Years Reolution And New Project :D

To start of the new year one of my new years resolutions are to make sure that I blog daily and to record the work and research i do with my new project. :D
Finally I am really looking forward to this project as it looks a lot more fun the last one I have just finished. The new project is called "Only Make Believe" when I first heard the name of the project i thought thats sounds like its going to be a bit difficult, but when i heard that it was to do with the Bother Grimm's fairytales I instanlty knew that this was the project for me :D I have always enjoyed the Brothers Grimm Fairytales and grew up with them. My faourite storys were and always will be "Little Brier Rose (sleeping beauty) and snow white and red rose". I'm really looking foward to doin the research of this project and and creating idea's for a final piece which is part of the live project where it will be shown in a art gallery and where the public can also buy the work to "Happy Days" :D
